Jnana Yoga is essentially the yoga of the mind or the “path of knowledge”. Its practical application draws strongly on the Samkhya philosophy, which in turn has greatly influenced Buddhism. According to Yogis if one continuously strives towards gaining insight and knowledge about body, mind, spirit, nature, universe and in general about all that surrounds us, the veil of illusion, called maya, will be lifted and one will experience liberation from the cycles of birth and death.

Jnana Yoga includes the reading of sacred texts and scriptures, different kinds of meditation to control one’s mind and gain greater spiritual insights and intellectual knowledge, as well as observation and “structured thinking” exercises. “The path of knowledge” is especially suitable for those individuals, who have a strong desire to continuously learn and improve themselves by reflecting on their thoughts, words and deeds.

Jnana yoga teaches that there are four means to salvation:

- Viveka - Discrimination: The ability to differentiate between what is real/eternal (Brahman) and what is unreal/temporal (everything else in the universe.)
- Vairagya - Dispassion: After practice one should be able to "detach" her/himself from everything that is "temporary."
- Shad-sampat - The 6 Virtues: Tranquility (control of the mind), Dama (control of the senses), Uparati (renunciation of activities that are not duties), Titiksha (endurance), Shraddha (faith), Samadhana (perfect concentration).
- Mumukshutva - Intense longing for liberation from temporal limitations.

Jnana Yoga has a positive impact on your mental clarity and helps you to develop your analytical and conceptual skills, as well as your ability of complex thought. Moreover, Jnana Yoga is essential for you to understand and improve your personality and develop your spiritual gifts.

You can easily integrate Jnana Yoga into your everyday life by reading the sacred scriptures, exploring new ideas, reading the latest insights on scientific discoveries and especially by meditating on the “truths” of life and the universe to improve yourself and gain liberation from the cycles of birth and death.
